My hand lingers on the glass for a moment before I continue on. I tend to get slighly philosophical on days like this, thinking of the ways of the world. Only a simple pane of glass separates my sancuary from the harshness of the outside world.
Though one is visable from the other, the two worlds are apart, a barrier between them of far more than a simple transparent wall.
My treasures are of that world, but now belong to this one. Far from the unpredictibility of the outside, this world is safe and secure.
I can hear the wind howl, and a shudder runs through me. The outside still influences here, as much as I try to keep it away. In the end, my world is isolated, surrounded by the reality of everything else.
I cast another gaze out the window before hitting a button on the wall, and an opaque shield descends to block out the storm.
Returning to my command chair, I guide the ship to above the clouds. The world stretches out below me, and I smile slightly. Up here, there is no storm, only sky.
This is my world.
